Matamata Historical Society’s mission is the preservation, conservation and display of artefacts so that our visitors are informed about the history of Firth’s Matamata Estate and the wider district.
We aim to inspire adults and children visiting our Firth Tower Reserve site about life as it was, on the farm and in a small New Zealand Town.
The Matamata Historical Society has a large collection of local items and machinery which is used to enhance the Firth Tower Museum buildings. There are many wonderful displays which have been created, updated and maintained by the many volunteers of the Historical Society over the past 40 years. Our volunteers are passionate about history and maintaining the displays at the Firth Tower estate and help where they can to enhance the whole site and Museum.
